Standing for election to CIM Board of Trustees
I am currently standing for election to the Board of Trustees of the Chartered Institute of Marketing. Here is a copy of my personal statement:
For over 20 years I have benefited from the continuing education, knowledge provision and fellowship that the CIM has provided to me. It would be an honour to put something back.
As a non-executive director of a major NHS Foundation Trust I am actively involved in bringing independent judgement and advice on strategy and vision. My peer appraisals comment that “Keith has made a first rate contribution to formulating strategy; very much an area of personal knowledge and competence”. In my role as Audit Chair non-execs comment that they “feel fully assured that governance and financial risks are thoroughly examined and mitigated”. At PwC I developed a strategy that considerably strengthened the firm’s profile with fast-growth technology companies and venture capital investors. As Master Marketor I instituted a series of high-level marketing seminars and successfully project-managed the livery company to Royal Charter status.
The CIM needs to urgently stem the decline in membership, by being aspirational to marketing students and essential to members and fellows. We need to benchmark ourselves with other professional associations. We need to secure a profitable core operational base, grow our international reach, embrace innovation and share best marketing practices with all. Having agreed a workable strategy we need to stick to it and not repeatedly change course.
With my professional experience as both a chartered marketer and a chartered accountant, my financial and commercial business knowledge, I believe that I could make a significant contribution to the future direction and governance of the CIM.
