California dreaming and London calling
At the Entrepreneurs – City of London event on 21 January “California dreaming and London calling” I spoke on my visit to Silicon Valley, USA last summer when I met with a number of venture capital firms, tech companies and entrepreneurs based in the Valley. This was in connection with my research into VC fund performance in Europe and the USA.
My talk covered the history of Silicon Valley, the key centres, key companies and VC firms. Selected comments and observations from my meetings with the VCs and others were included (on a non-attributable basis). The unique features and characteristics of Silicon Valley, which make it non-comparable with other tech centres, were discussed.
London’s exciting Tech City initiative was then presented by Juliette Morgan (Head of Property Strategy for Tech City UK), followed by a panel which included Juliette and myself with John Spindler (angel investor, entrepreneur and director of Capital Enterprise) and Simo Dragicevic (founder of Bet Buddy and an alumnus of Cass Business School).
