The Reading Tech Cluster
The Reading Tech Cluster, encompassing Reading and surrounding areas such as Bracknell, Slough and West Berkshire is a key part of the wider Thames Valley economy, one of the UK’s most successful regional economies. One of the key attributes of Silicon Valley in the USA as an economic powerhouse is the global supremacy of its interconnectedness amongst its stakeholders. For the Reading Tech Cluster, tech companies, venture capitalists, local authorities, trade bodies, professional services firms and the University of Reading as a centre of academic and research excellence need to connect more with each other to share ideas, bounce off potential new initiatives and work together to drive growth in the region. Over recent months the Thames Valley Society of Chartered Accountants (TVSCA), represented by Michael Cooper (Past President), Cllr. Biyi Oloko (Deputy President) and Dr Keith Arundale, has convened stakeholder roundtables and meetings with the British Business Bank, Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce and the University of Reading to discuss interconnectedness in the Reading Tech Cluster. In our paper on the cluster the TVSCA makes a call to action for closer collaboration amongst stakeholders within the Reading Tech Cluster and to create an organisation to promote and improve interconnectivity within the cluster. Please view the paper at the TVSCA LinkedIn group at : https://www.linkedin.com/groups/3037934/. TVSCA convened a meeting of interested parties at the University of Reading in April 2024 to ascertain the level of support for such an organisation. Over 50 stakeholders attended and it was agreed to form a steering committee to make this a reality. The committee is now defining the vision for the Reading Tech Cluster and the form that such an organisation might take.
